#ASKCONSENT

The #ASKCONSENT campaign aims to maintain an ongoing conversation about consent within the community. In 2019, Cork showcased its commitment to this cause by adorning Oliver Plunkett Street and adjacent bollards with #ASKCONSENT bunting. Prominent city centre retailers, including Brown Thomas, featured #ASKCONSENT lollipop sticks in their window displays, and local store and pub staff wore #ASKCONSENT t-shirts. The campaign also reached hundreds of students at Cork's third-level institutions through innovative Consent Tea Parties. These events use the metaphor of making tea to explain the concept of consent, making it accessible and relatable. The world's first Consent Tea Party took place at UCC in 2019 before Fresher’s Week and continued during Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance (S.H.A.G. week) at CIT. Organized in collaboration with Students’ Unions and Cork City Council, these events offered students tea and consent-themed tattoos while fostering discussions about consent and healthy boundaries.
